Four Ceylon Sapphires, the four well-matched, an excellent bright blue, centred about a proper White Brilliant-cut Diamond.
The combination of Silver and Gold in jewellery is an ancient practice, frequently employed by the English jewellers of the Georgian and early Victorian periods, often using Silver as the gemstone-set face of a piece, be it a ring or a brooch or a pendant, fixed to an under-structure of Gold; the discovery of Platinum in the Russian Urals, mid-1800s, put an end to the noble metal Silver being used in those silver/gold combinations.
The two noble metals Silver and Gold were not much used together in jewellery for almost a century after the Europeans discovered Platinum on their doorstep, but it is a look that has enduring appeal, and is currently, in the 2020s, especially appealing because of the outrageous elevation in the cost of Gold. The above Four Ceylon Sapphire ring, were it to be all of 9ct Gold, the gemstone setting face the same 9ct Yellow and the band 9ct White, its weight would be over 5 grams and 5 grams of 9ct Gold stock gauge, before any work whatsoever, has a present Sydney cost of $375 (as of April 2025). That base Gold cost would translate to a retail price for the above ring, but all in 9ct Gold, of around $1200.
