Worn Old Silver Tribal pendant, once a quarter Rupee or Four Anna coin, one of the four Silver coins of India under British rule -Two Anna, Four Anna, half Rupee and Rupee- minted under strict control in India, always inn the same weights and always in the same 91.6% Silver purity. The Tribals of India greatly appreciated this Silver coinage as a store of wealth, and, transformed into wearable jewellery, as a sign of prestige and standing.
The above Worn Old Silver coin pendant would have been one of a dozen or more, strung close together on durable twine, constantly worn, the coins rubbing against each other to the point of the erasure of all information, the date of minting and the portrait of the English monarch of the year.
At twelve grams a nice weight for the piece as a whole. Lovely Coral and Turquoise, an interesting new Silver double-link chain.
