Yellow Quartz Teardrops. Quartz gemstone is considered the gemstone world’s standard for “hardness”, i.e. toughness and durability; anything less hard than Quartz being considered more prone to accidental damage through everyday wear, anything harder than Quartz having just that much greater toughness, durability. Quartz is a Crystal, having a crystal structure; gemstones can be crystalline, organic or rock; most gemstones are crystalline and most of these are tougher than those without a crystal structure; it is the tightness of the crystal structure which makes for strength.
Quartz gemstone can come in all sorts of colours and clarity, from colourless through shades of lilac (Amethyst), to shades of yellow (Citrine). Oddly enough, colourless clear Quartz, “Crystal Quartz”, is one of the most difficult to source of the Quartz variety of gemstones.
