Turquoise Amber and Pearl necklace. The Turquoise beads are in “heishi” cut, a small cylindrical shape. The word heishi comes from the New Mexico Pueblo word for shell bead, an ornamental bead cut in this shape. Turquoise and shell are the two beads associated with this cut. The Turquoise used in the above “Turquoise Amber and Pearl” strand has its origin in Nevada.
The opaque yellow Amber centre bead is Baltic, a lovely natural Amber bead, new, cut ovoid to resemble the look of the yellow Baltic Amber bead necklaces so favoured by the English in the last decades of the Victorian era.
The very nicely matched 3mm Pearls are cultured, of a pleasing slightly creamy colour.
Four solid old Silver beads added around the centre Amber, to add a little weight to the strand, for the hang of it. The necklace has been professionally strung in Sydney on white silk, by professional Pearl threaders, knotted each bead, the dozens and dozens of neat knots placed between each two Pearls. This is meticulous work, costly work.
