Turquoise 14x10mm Cabochon, Gold & Silver Ring; this Turquoise is from a small cache of Australian Turquoise purchased recently (2022) from a reputable Sydney gemstone dealer, origin Andamooka Sth Australia. It was mined in the 1970s from a small seam of mother rock which was quickly depleted, and cut into cabochons in Adelaide. The eggshell blue is natural; the gemstone is untreated save for a protective surface waxing.
Turquoise, when undyed and not “stabilized”, as is presently the case with almost all commercial Turquoise, is an unstable rock. Natural untreated Turquoise requires some care, for if exposed to chemicals such as in perfumes, body lotions etc, the natural Turquoise blue can be compromised. In any case natural Turquoise will with wear and over time, darken in colour, but gradually and evenly; old worn Turquoise, when possessed of good colour to begin with, assumes a lovely blue-green, if handled with care.
