Turkoman Coral & Silver. Old Turkmeni Tribal. Originally they would have had more small Corals hanging from a centre pendant between the the two existing Coral drops. Throughout the Asian ‘Stan region – Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Kazakstan, Uzbekistan – Coral has long been appreciated, and jewellery with little Coral drops such as in the above earrings, typically securely twist-wired as in the above, was common. Not so common in Tribal jewellery of the region was the use larger Coral gemstones.
Styling of above earrings typical of Tribal Turkmenistan, simple lines, well-made with clean soldering and wire work. Tribal Afghani jewellery in the country’s north can be similar, no doubt due to the proximity to the stylish Turkmenis, while the jewellery of, say, Uzbekistan, tends rather more to the ornate, more to the stylistic flourishes of northern China.
