Tigereye Ovals. Tiger Eye is a form of quartz, distinctive for its “chatoyancy”, or “cat’s eye” effect (“chat” being French for cat), brought about by the lining up within of its rutile spar inclusions. Light penetrates, meets the massed, super-fine lined-up rutile rods, or spars, and gets refracted back out through the gemstone surface, setting up the phenomenon.
Anyway, the cat’s eye effect has ensured Tiger Eye enduring popularity, both as an ornamental gemstone and in jewellery.
