Tassel Earrings, Silver. The basic concept of this style is the top pinning of a number of equal lengths of slim chevron-linked chain, each ending with soldered ball granule, all dingle-dangling in a pendant. The style is ancient, pretty and eye-catching. To be found in old Silver Indian jewellery, especially of the more formal type as in, for example, the dangles on the set of Silver buttons for a dress kurta; also to be found in examples of Ottoman jewellery/adornments/lamp pendants, and still commonly to be seen in Istanbul.
The Victorian English appropriated the design for use as an attractive bauble for a chain, especially chains made for women, and is most commonly seen in Australia hung from near the clasp on an English antique fancy Silver “Albertina” bracelet.
To source a pair of these English antique tassels, perfect for eardrops, is very difficult, for they are so pricey in England, in general too pricey for on-selling.
