Sth Indian Corals, old handcut beads, of proper gemstone quality, natural untreated orange in colour, origin the Mediterranean Sea; gemstone Coral has been a favourite in Sth India for a very long time; the market for Coral in Sth India would have been supplied, historically, from the China Sea, but English traders introduced Mediterranean Coral in the 1800s: it was plentiful and cheaper.
The old tribal Silver at the centre of the above necklace dates back to the mid-1900s, completely handmade, the central pendant from the foothills of the Himalayas, from the northern India state of Himachel Pradesh, and its two old flanking Silver beads from the Ghazni region of the eastern borderlands of Afghanistan.
The five Silver-wired segments of the above necklace are securely twist-wired into the whole, work handcrafted in Sydney. The Silver chain is of a simple “cable” link, quite sturdy.
