Starset Diamond and 9ct White Gold Earrings; this is another of those charming designs originating in the early 1900s in Edwardian England, created for the tops of the Gold tie-pins of the day, used for pinning in place the neck cloths worn by men and women of a certain standing. They were usually about this size, 8 to 10mm approx, just big enough to grasp twixt thumb and forefinger.
These tie-pin tops were usually Diamond set, but the Diamonds used were old-cut and not particularly white in colour, more often a steely grey. (Unmistakably Diamond, however, for Diamond has an adamantine glint all its own.)
