Silver Simplicity, two lovely cabochon Amethysts in minimal bezel settings, tightly encircling their girdles and allowing maximum light penetration, one hanging below the other, centred in a necklet of sturdy Silver cable chain.
The two Amethysts are high-quality Lilac Quartz gemstones, clean and transparent, of excellent characteristic purple colour, of Brazilian origin. It is not easy these days, mid 2020s, to source such fine matching Amethyst gemstones; the above “Silver Simplicity” necklet was created in the early 1990s, when sourcing fine quality semi-precious gemstones like Amethyst and Garnet and Peridot was much less of a problem, and nowhere near as costly.
The above two Amethysts were cut cabochon in Jaipur Rajasthan, west India, a major world gem-cutting centre, from rough Brazilian Crystal Amethyst, set by hand in Silver in Jaipur and put together into the above elegant little gemstone necklet in Melbourne, using sturdy Silver chain produced by the fabled, now sadly long defunct, Austral Chain works, all back in the early 1990s, making this exercise in “Silver Simplicity” a vintage item.
Note: though vintage this necklet has never been worn since created about thirty-five years ago. It is another example of the often quite fine jewellery items which can surface from the depths of a business of long standing.
