Ruby, White Gold, Diamond Pendant. The Ruby, 2.5mm square, .12ct in weight, is a genuine gemstone Ruby of African origin, not man-made, and has a proper Ruby red colour, with a flash of orange-red. In the above Sydney-made solid 9ct White Gold pendant, the bright square Ruby is the least costly component. The Sydney crafting of the pendant, the cost of the 1gram 9ct White Gold in the pendant, the professional Sydney master setting of the Ruby and four white Brilliant Diamonds, the cost of the .08ct in the four Diamonds, the final Sydney polish and necessary rhodium plating: every one of these components of the above pendant were more costly than the Ruby itself, with the four fine white Brilliant Diamonds being the most costly component of all.
The solid 9ct White Gold pendant itself is interesting in its design history, for it is based on an English Regency tie-pin top, originally in yellow Gold and set with darkish old cut Diamonds, battered and rather flimsy compared to the above Sydney creation, and certainly the Diamonds nowhere near as sparkly.
