Ovoid Jasper beads, Tibetan Amber, old Tribal Silver and gem-quality red Corals, an unusual and pleasing mix of fine semi-precious gemstone beads.
Jasper is a Chalcedony, one of a large crypto-crystalline family that includes black Onyx, reddish-brown Carnelian and Bloodstone, among others. It has since ancient times been appreciated for its reddish-ness and its high polish, used in both jewellery -especially as beads but also as a gemstone that can be carved and used as a seal on wax- and artefacts such as bowls. The red, or brownish red, in the above Ovoid Jasper is caused by iron content.
Ten round gemstone Corals of deep red, old Sth Indian beads, complement the old Tribal Afghani Silver and the very fine rare old Tibetan “butterscotch” Amber centre-bead.
Note: both the old Sth Indian Corals and the yellow Tibetan Amber have their origins in European seas, the Amber from the Baltic, the Coral from the Mediterranean.
