There are these points in Diamond buying where the cost per carat of Diamonds of the same quality suddenly is markedly higher; a Diamond, for example, of .28ct weight, can cost 20% less than the same quality Diamond of .30ct weight, and the difference in size for the naked eye is simply not discernible.
Not surprisingly, the difference between a 2.7mm round Diamond and one of 3mm is slightly more noticeable to the naked eye, for there is a 25% weight difference between the two sizes; but the price per carat can jump easily 25%, so one is paying not only for 25% more weight, but also a further 25% more per unit of that weight.
