Large Antique Silver Curb bracelet. French Antique from the late 1800s. The English also created this type of large curb link in the same period, also for bracelets, but only in Gold, not Silver. An example of this English Gold large curb-link bracelet is on this site, item #5 in the “Gold Antique Jewellery” segment. The French Silver examples often employ the “night’n’day” enhancement, alternating a polished link with a worked link, as is often the case with the English equivalents. And often the French Silver examples were given highlights of Gold, as can be seen in the above, with 9ct Rose Gold rosetttes.
The large curb linkage in this type of Antique bracelet, be it English Gold or French Silver, was always hollow, for if it were solid Gold or solid Silver it would be uncomfortably heavy. And, of course, such large hollow curb linkage could not and can not be machine-made; bracelets such as the above are completely handcrafted; so labour-intensive is this work that it has not been produced for a hundred years.
