Lapis Multi Facetted Ovals. Excellent dark blue, natural untreated colour, quite high in grade; in the days when there was a functioning Lapis Lazuli assayist office in Kabul, the gemstones in the above earrings would have rated 7 to 8 in a scale to ten. The very best grade of Lapis Lazuli, the gemstone of deepest ultramarine with just a touch of the characteristic pyrites inclusion, was usually reserved for Paris and New York, for incorporation in cuff links or signet rings.
The above gemstones were cut and polished in Peshawar, in the north-west of Pakistan, just the Khyber Pass between Peshawar and the Afghanistan border.
