Handcarved Antique English Jet Bead Necklace

Handcarved Antique English Jet bead necklace of the late 1800s, very typical original, with the original black-painted metal bayonet clasp.
67cms necklace length, restrung in Sydney on thickish black cotton.

Jet is an organic gemstone, a bituminous material light in weight, easy to cut, and taking a high polish. Most English Jet from the 1800s seems to have come from Whitby.
