Handblown Old Venetian Glass and Silver earrings.
Venice was prolific in glass production for centuries, across all types of glassware. The city was, for example, the major producer of the Glass Trade Beads of the mid to late 1800s, traded in vast quantities into Africa. The beads in the above Handblown Old Glass pair, created around the turn into the 1900s and quite different to the relatively crude African Trade Beads, were made for consumption by the monied European and American travellers of one hundred years ago.
Originally the above pair would have been two of dozens of such beads in a strand, every bead unique, each handblown and adorned with applied dribbles of coloured molten glass. Lovely, really.
