German Coral, Silver pendant, circa 1900. The ten gemstone Corals are a lovely matched set of natural saturated pink. (As noted above, the colour in reality is of a definite pink, rather than the more orange hue of the images; colours for this amateur photographer can sometimes be tricky: the depth of blue in Lapis Lazuli can be difficult to fix, as is also the case with attempting to capture the liveliness of some blue Sapphire material.)
The Silver craftsmanship in the above pendant is truly fine, the form meticulously built up with 1mm wide flat Silver wire, very nicely millgrained both edges so the pendant presents very well from the rear, the granulation work virtually perfect. A beautiful pendant that required days of high craft for its creation.
The Silver chain is of the same vintage as the pendant. The pendant bail is stamped with 800, the Silver mark of Germany up to the 1940s, and the chain is stamped 835, which was used at the same time in Belgium and the Nederlands, but also in Germany. The chain could well have been with the pendant for a hundred years and more, and certainly was at time of purchase some five years ago, in Cologne.

Note: the Coral colour in these images not quite correct, the real colour being definitely more obviously pink.
