Garnet Types. The Garnet crystal family is complex; though the physical structure of the Garnet crystal remains the same no matter its origin, the chemical composition -whether it contains iron or manganese, magnesium, chromite or aluminium etc.- dictates its colour, and that chemical composition depends on what other types of rock were around at the volcanic time of its creation.
The Garnet Types in the above bracelet are the darker Spessartine and the smaller lighter-coloured Hessonite.
Almandine Garnet is easily the best known Garnet, and the best-loved, too, probably, with its lovely deep wine-red colour. And there are also green Garnets, sometimes of the most intense green, which tend to be the most costly of all the Garnet Types.
