Five Carnelians and other gemstones, a playful mix in a necklace created in Sydney: cultured Pearl, red Garnet, green Peridot, blue Turquoise, superfine ultramarine Lapis Lazuli from Afghanistan, Amethyst, Citrine, some cut Labradorite and six beads of distinctive shimmering brown Tiger Eye.
All the beads in the above strand are natural gemstones, and all are good examples of their types, their gemstone families, some particularly good examples: the Afghani Lapis beads, for example, are of an excellent natural deep blue, and the Five Carnelians, the three reddish-brown beads around the centre and two further up the strand, are of a lively translucency and warmth of colour rarely found in beads of this gemstone.
The source of the above Five Carnelians is the complex of gemstone mines near the coast in Gujerat, west India, which has supplied India and the world around it, all the way to Ancient Egypt, with AGrade Carnelian since antiquity.
This strand is not entirely symmetrical but it is balanced, a bright unique mix of different natural gemstones and their colours. It has been strung by one of the most professional pearl-threader concerns in Sydney, on black silk, knotted each bead.
