Fine Teardrop Garnet, well-matched in colour and cut. Garnet is a complex crystal family, with a number of branches of different colours depending on a variety of chemical compositions. The above Fine Teardrop Garnets are of the Almandine crystal family of Garnets, the red variety, probably, both presently and historically, the most popular of all the Garnet types.
The above pair is of particularly fine wine-red, clear and translucent, tending to pinkish in certain lights. Indian in origin, mined in the 1980s, cut and polished in Jaipur Rajasthan in the 1980s, Garnet gemstones were then commonly of this sort of AGrade quality. This is no longer the case. Over a couple of decades now it has become increasingly problematical sourcing the quality of the above matching pair, with the normal commercial red garnets less translucent, much more laden with the impurities that cause murkiness.
The Silver settings of the above Fine Teardrop Garnets are handmade specifically for these gemstones, simple neat bezels around the gemstone girdles, totally exposing the rear cuts, allowing maximum light penetration.
