Facetted Jasper. Jasper is a finely grained Agate. In modern gemmology it falls into the Chalcedony crystal family of gemstones, which includes well-known gemstones such as Onyx and Carnelian, and lesser known gemstones such as Aventurine and Bloodstone. Jasper has always been valued and appreciated for its usefulness -in its hardness, its capacity to take a high polish and its fine, earthy colour- in the creation of artefacts and items of jewellery; there are, for example, superbly crafted human torsos in a couple of museums, out of the Indus Valley Civilization of close on five thousand years ago, carved entirely from one slab of Jasper.
Jasper is found all over the world, in the States, Europe, Central Asia, China, Russia, and also in Australia. The above Facetted Jasper was cut in Jaipur Rajasthan, and the supplier seemed sure that the gemstone origin was Arizona.
