European Coral, Silver and Gold ring, early 1900s, the ring very finely handcrafted; no stamps but the Silver tested at 800, the Gold band at a little more than 9ct, probably 10ct. Definitely Northern European, could be Polish but probably Baltic, from Latvia or Estonia.
The Gold band is of an interesting construction, its work requiring great care and finesse: made of three filaments of approx .65mm thick round Gold wire, two joined together until they part in a V about 5mm from the ring mount to join the Silver understructure of the mount, the third fitted into the groove of those two and running above them from their split, to join with the top of the Silver mount. Very satisfactory work, and the three round Gold filaments neatly reinforced at the split with a hemisphere of Gold wire of the same gauge.
The gemstone in the above European Coral Ring is of very good gem quality, a fine natural deep orange-red. Gemstone Coral ranges in colour from quite pale pink, almost like a tinted white, through all shades of orange and orange-red, to deep blood red; the particular deep orange-red of the above Coral was a favourite colour in northern Europe in the early 20th.Century.
Marcasites surround the Coral, each inside its own meticulously millgrained setting.
