Deep Orange Red Gem Coral. This is a particularly fine example of gemstone-quality Coral, or “noble” Coral. Note the last image in the gallery, showing the rear of the Coral gemstone setting; the Coral’s Deep Orange Red colour is saturated all the way through.
Gemstone Coral is increasingly rare. Coral of various types grow in the seas of the world all over, but there is only one type of precious Coral, gemstone Coral: it comes in shades of pinks and reds, from the palest of pinks through to the deepest of blood red, is much more dense in structure than ordinary corals, and while not hard, being organic not crystalline, is durable and can be carved. It has always been much appreciated, from Ancient China to ancient Egypt and everywhere in between, always an item of trade.
Gemstone Coral grows only in a few areas, in the waters off the coasts of Japan and Taiwan, and in the Mediterranean Sea; it was always a relatively scarce commodity, but supply became increasingly a problem, gradually, only over the last one hundred and fifty years, as more and more folk could afford to own it.
Now, in 2025, AGrade gemstone Coral is costly. The above Deep Orange Red gemstone Coral is AGrade, unblemished, of large proportions and superb colour.
The ring setting is crafted in Sydney specifically for the Coral gemstone, handcrafted in 9ct Rose Gold, in a very nice shade of Rose Gold, and very solid, its band a uniform 3.4mm width, thickness tapering from 2.4mm at top where it meets the setting, to 1.6mm thickness at the rear.
