Cute Old Silver, handmade earrrings. The round Silver beads are very characteristic Turkmeni, probably crafted in northern Afghanistan around the 1970s; the Silver pendant drops hanging below are older, from the mid-1900s or earlier, originating in Himachel Pradesh in the Himalayan foothills of northern India, Simla region, and are interesting both for the pure form of their craftsmanship and for their original use: each of the above hand-beaten pieces was created from one strip of Silver narrowed down to a beaten and annealed length of round wire, turned to form the ring then neatly wound back around below the ring, no joins, no solder, only hammer and pliers and flame; and dozens of such neat little drops were handmade, to be sewn onto the shawl of a well-off villager.
The third component in the above eardrops is the blue-green glass, much, much more ancient than the Silver components, for they are excavated beads from south Java, Maja Pahit, dating from before the arrival of Islam in Java around six centuries ago.
