Cut Green Peridot, 9ct White Gold pendant. Peridot is always green, but it can have a yellowish or brown tinge. The above Cut Green Peridot is a good example of the true proper green associated with this gemstone. Peridot has been appreciated for a very long time, a favourite of the elite of Ancient Egypt over four thousand years ago, when it was mined on an island in the Red Sea. That island, Zagarbad, is thought to be where Peridot was first uncovered, and was the sole source of the gemstone for thousands of years.
Though it might seem a trifle odd to us now, Peridot has been historically confused with Emerald, all the way up to the 1800s, despite its olive-green colour being quite distinctive.
The pendant setting of solid 9ct White Gold is neat in form, crafted in Sydney. The pendant design is classic, used since at least Roman times, a solid rim around the gemstone setting edge giving that extra solidity and strength. In the above pendant the rear is as cleanly finished as the face, and is completely open for greater translucency.
