Conical Carnelians, Silver-capped, in Silver earrings.
The gemstone Carnelian is part of the Chalcedony crystal family, which includes Chrysoprase and Agates, Jasper, and the lovely lavender Chalcedony. Carnelian, as a gemstone, has since ancient times always been much appreciated, liked, valued, for its warm orange-brown colour, for its capacity to be etched and carved. For thousands of years it was carved and used as a “seal” for private and/or state documents: the document flap would be closed with hot sealing wax and the carved seal stamped upon the hot wax, leaving a distinct impression in the wax of the reverse of whatever had been carved into the Carnelian seal. If the wax seal was broken, so too would be the stamp; if the breaker were other than the designated recipient of the document then there could be no way of disguising that, the theory being that no miscreant could duplicate the seal stamp.

The above Conical Carnelians are of good colour and good translucency. When held up against a strong light the natural included striations of the gemstone are eye-visible.
