The bezel setting in the above earrings is the most simple setting imaginable, being a slim strip of Gold, drawn through a draw-plate especially made for purpose, to give a hollowed profile to the Gold strip, which is then snugly fitted around the girdle, or outside edge, of the gemstone, before fixing in place with a ring for the hook. Simple? Not.
The creation of the above minimal look, totally open at rear for complete translucency, requires considerable skill.
The Amethysts in above earrings are of excellent natural lilac. In the Old World of Europe Amethyst was very rare and precious, considered one of the five “Cardinal” gemstones, along with Ruby, Emerald, Sapphire and Diamond; until the New World began to open up and large deposits of Amethyst Quartz were discovered in Brazil.
