Australian Tiger Eye, Silver pendant. The very nicely shaped Australian Tiger Eye in the pendant is West Australian, purchased in Fremantle. The origin of the 3mm beads in the necklace is unknown; West Australia and South Africa are said to be the world’s largest producers of this interesting ornamental gemstone, though it is also sourced in Namibia, Spain, Canada and various others.
Tiger Eye is a form of Quartz, and its distinctive lustre and shifting colour bands come from its internal structure of parallel fibres which reflect light in bands.
The Silver pendant setting is very finely crafted, completely by hand, with an excellent solid fixed bail. The Silver work has been crafted in Kathmandu Valley in Nepal. The metal-working artisans of Kathmandu and its environs are historically renowned for a high quality of craftsmanship, whether it be in jewellery or in the creation of bronzes.
