Aquamarine Sea Blue Transparent. Aquamarine has been a favourite gemstone for thousands of years; the Aquamarine beads found in some tombs of ancient Egypt would have come in through trade, probably sourced in parts of Africa further south. The above examples are from Brazil, in modern times the biggest source of this gemstone.
The gemstone world is divided into three main sections: gemstones that are non-crystalline and considered “organic”, such as Pearl and Coral and Amber; gemstones that are considered non-crystalline and considered “rock”, Lapis Lazuli and Turquoise; and gemstones that are crystalline in form. The great majority of gemstones are crystalline, and these, in our modern technical world, are classified by the physical nature of their crystal structures.
There are a number of types of crystal structure that have two or more gemstones in their “Crystal Family”, and Aquamarine is one, belonging to the Beryl Crystal Family, along with green Emerald and pink Morganite.
