The African Rubies are bezel set, the eight Diamonds bead set, the ten gemstones professionally set in Sydney by a master gemstone setter.
The design of four segments fanning out from a square central setting, round and slightly convex, has its source in an English Gold tie pin top of the early 1800s, originally set with five darkly adamantine old cut Diamonds, definitely not of the sparkle of the above Diamonds. The rucking of the surface of the four segments, hand-worked by the master gem setter, is an old European art to enhance glitter.
