9x6mm Lapis Baguette set in a Silver ring. Lapis Lazuli, like almost all gemstones excepting Diamond, does not have a specific grading system. A polished Lapis gemstone might be described as “AGrade” or “Premium”, or, if of poor or indifferent quality, as simply being of “deep blue” or “natural blue”. The Lapis in the above ring is definitely of very fine quality, of a deep but bright dark blue, of Afghani origin, from the ancient mines in the rugged north-east of the country, and liberally flecked with pyrites, a particular characteristic of Lapis Lazuli from those parts.
The Lapis colour considered the most rare and, naturally, the most costly, is of an even deeper, darker blue than the above, with, perhaps, just a glint or two of pyrites, but many enthusiasts of the gemstone Lapis would prefer the brighter fine deep blue of the above, with its constellation of pyrites, stars in a remote moonless night sky.
The ring setting, solid and handcrafted, is strongly styled, fitting the crispness of the baguette cut of the gemstone.
