6.5mm Garnet round bead strand. The Garnet crystal family is complex; the best known Garnet type is the wine-red variety called Almandine, which the above 6.5mm Garnet strand is, but there is a pinkish Garnet called Rhodolite, a yellow Garnet called Hessonite, a green Garnet called Demantoid (possibly the most costly of all Garnet).
The origin of the gemstone in the above Garnet strand, and also where the beads were cut and polished, is India, the major world source of this type of wine-red Garnet. The beads in the above necklace are very well matched, in cut, polish and colour. The beads are of a very deep, dark wine-red, the red especially evident when the gemstones catch some light.
Necklace is strung in Sydney, on tiger-tail, plastic-coated wire which is very strong and which also allows the strand to hold its shape. (Attention should be paid to how the necklace is stored when not worn, for, for example, if it is put in a drawer and items pushed up against it, it tiger-tail could be bent.)
