38mm Diameter Coral, Silver earhoops.
The six small Corals are old Sth Indian, gemstone quality orange-red, originally handcut for use in a simple necklet of such matched Corals; these simple Coral bead necklets have been a favourite in Sth India for centuries, usually shortish, worn a little high.
These six Corals are of Mediterranian origin, imported into Sth India in branch form and cut for purpose there. There was substantial sea trade between south India and the Roman Empire two thousand years ago, and it would seem unlikely that Mediterranean gemstone Coral was not part of that trade.
The 38mm Diameter earhoops worked up in Melbourne, on a jig especially created in Melbourne for the making of this type of hoop. The round Silver wire used in this earhoop pair is of 1mm thickness; before the upright end of the hoop is plier-turned, the Silver and Coral beads are threaded; once the upright ending is fixed, the threaded beads cannot be lost.

This type of earhoop, with its simple catch mechanism, relies entirely on the tensile strength of the 1mm thick round Silver wire once worked into shape on the jig, and it is effective. This method of creating an earhoop is ancient.
