15mm Round Moonstone Gem Pair. Moonstone, naturally enough given its soft sheen, has since ancient times been associated with the Moon, hence its name. Moonstone was a favourite semi-precious gemstone of the English Victorian period, when most of the gemstone material used in jewellery had its source in Ceylon, Sri Lanka. The above pair of 15mm Round Moonstone gems are from India, presently one of the major world suppliers of this gemstone. Indian Moonstone tends to be more pellucid, more transparently clear, than the Sri Lankan gemstone, which often has a bluish tinge, caused by light refracting from and through interior inclusions and scattering across the gemstone surface.
The above pair are very good examples of this gemstone, and unusual in their quite large size.
