14x11mm Teardrop White Pearl earrings. These are Freshwater Pearls, so-called because most of global “cultivated” Pearl production is worked out of river delta regions. This freshwater pearl production can result in inferior product simply through producers cutting corners, particularly in the matter of the length of time given to the growing process of the Pearl within the mussel before cultivation. The longer the time given, the more layers of “nacre” will encompass the irritant inserted in the mussel. It is this “nacre”, the mussel’s attempt to cover and isolate the inserted irritant, that creates Pearl.
The matched Pearls in the above earrings are examples of superior “Freshwater Pearls”, well-matched, good white colour and good lustre.
