Princess 8pt Diamond, White Gold Ring; the simple design of a square setting with gemstone accents at each corner, the whole positioned to sit or hang corner to corner, rather than side to side, was taken from a very elegant pair of 15ct Gold and old-cut Diamonds out of the English Georgian period around the mid 1700s. It was an era of elegance, a reaction it might be argued against the baroque, and was informed at its core by a spareness, a more restrained sense of form and style.
The above design is typical of the period’s spareness in form.
Note the solidity of the band, a sturdy 2mm width and 1.5mm thickness around the back of the band.
