AAAGrade Aquamarine baguette gemstone, superfine natural, finely step cut, the four corners shaved in the co-called “emerald” cut. (Emerald gemstone is naturally so full of flaws and inclusions that setters have a problem with setting the gemstone if it has been cut with sharp corners, it being prone to the shatters under pressure of the setter’s tools and the sheer force required to mould metal into shape. Thus, when an Emerald is cut square or oblong, its corners usually are shaved, making it that much less problematic for the gemstone setter. This became known as the “emerald” cut, and has become a popular cut in its own right, used now in all manners of gemstone.)
The above AAAGrade Aquamarine is translucent, free of inclusions and clean of face, and is of excellent sea-blue colour.
This Aquamarine gemstone is 2.3ct in weight. Last year, 2025, one of Sydney’s better gemstone distributors had a wholesale price of $500 per carat for .50ct Aquamarine baguette of the same sort of quality as the above gemstone. The reason for the very reasonable price of the above is simply that it is old stock sourced back in the 1980s at a time when such best quality was more readily available and less costly.
