Oriental Silver design in earrings crafted in Morocco, Berber work from the Tiznit area on the Atlantic coast, not far from where the Anti Atlas trails down to the coastal plains.
As the old Berber Tribal Silver and Enamel jewellery becomes more scarce, some Berber clans of the Tiznit region have set up shop creating enamel and Silver jewellery, basically for the European market, using the age-old Tribal techniques and designs. The above Oriental Silver design is not a particularly Tribal Berber form, which tends towards stronger shapes, squares and rectangles, triangles and rounds, but it definitely has an oriental flavour and is the sort of form one can find all over Morocco, especially in architectural ornamentation.
It is probable that the Tiznit Berber artisans are producing enamelled Silver work in necklaces and bracelets, not only in earrings such as the above, for the European market; to this point only earrings have been available from the international traders dealing into Australia.
The centre sky-blue colour in above “Oriental Silver”earrings is not a traditional Berber colour; traditional Berber enamel colours are a lot less bright, for they were always created from organic natural dyes.
