Pink Mediterranean Coral, from an old Italian strand out of the 1960s/1970s, originally on a nylon string with base metal catch, here in Sydney completely re-imagined, with opaque tumble-polished purplish Corundum Ruby beads, centred by an old Tribal Yemeni bead of “butterscotch” Amber, Baltic origin and dating back to mid-1900s, small vivid red glass spacers throughout.
The little red spacers are interesting: from a Tribal Naga multi-strand rope necklace of such little red glass, initially a necklace of dozens of strands, mid 1900s or earlier, these red beads are created on white glass cores, very labour-intensive work which gives the beads their luminosity.
The pink of the Pink Mediterranean Coral and the purple of the opaque Ruby and the vivid red of the Naga glass, centred with the butterscotch of the Amber, creates a unique necklace, a unique colour combination.
The Amber is flanked by ancient blue Java glass and a pair of button Freshwater Pearls.
