31x11mm Lapis Lazuli matched oblongs, handcut side by side from the same section of Lapis gemstone rock, the two gemstones perfectly matched in the natural ultramarine blue, and in the natural flow of the calcite inclusions.
The source of the Lapis gemstones in the above earrings is the harsh fastnesses of the north-east region of Afghanistan, the ancient source of  this fabulous gemstone.
Interestingly, though the ear hooks are crafted in Sterling Silver (925), the handcrafted settings are in pure Silver (999), for Lapis Lazuli is a rock and not particularly tough, not like gemstones of crystal structure, and the squared corners proved a serious problem for the gemstone setters using Sterling Silver (925): too many of the gemstones were shattering at the corners with the pressure required for pushing 925 Silver, so the gemstone setters resorted to 999 Silver, it being more malleable and easier to manipulate.
