The English Silver standard, 925 parts Silver in 1000 parts system, is ancient, dating back to the very early 1300s. The stamping system we now call hallmarking dates from around the 1700s; the actual hallmark stamps have altered over the years but the standard of 925 remained the same. The rest of Europe was still producing Silver jewellery of 80% to 85% Silver content up to the 1940s and beyond, though the 925 standard has, for over a half-century now, become the world standard.
“Fob” is the word for a smallish pendant such as this that was made to hang on a watch fob chain.
