Venetian 1800s glass handblown beads, specifically made for the colonial African trade of the period and usually finding their way down to Timbuktu in Mali, strategically situated on one of the major land routes into the heart of the continent; threaded in Sydney onto a Sterling Silver rope chain to create a unique bracelet.
These beads were hand-painted then glazed. The combination used in the above bracelet is unusual, for rather than the more usual yellows and earthy colours, the above colour theme is blue, and striped, reminiscent, oddly, of images of rows of gaily-striped beach tents on the shores of northern German beaches.
21.5cms bracelet length.
