Antique Vesta, English Silver Phosphorus Match Container

Antique Vesta, an English Silver container-cum-striker for phosphorus matches, this excellent example was hallmarked in Birmingham in the year 1907, not long before this type of match was banned in England but quite some time before its banning in America.
Hinge and closure is quite strong, as it had to be. (The Roman goddess Vesta was represented by the hearth and its flame, hence the container’s name.)

43mm across.
